wooohoo, 8 days to go!
Food, Gastric Bypass, Recipes January 22nd, 2007Today, I start a liquid diet, although I have conflicting messages from the surgeons secretary. Luckily I am a doctor myself and know that either way, it will be a good thing. I plan on ringing the secretary later to double check.
Since coming back from a vacation in the US on the 5th, I have lost 7 pounds by cutting out sugar and most bread from my diet. It’s amazing what thinking “how much nutritional value does this food have” changes your way of thinking.
Anyway, been clearing my closets out, and have tons of stuff to give away. I am going to donate them to the local epilepsy charity, seeing as its a charity I hold close to my heart.
Does anyone have an good recipes for a liquid diet?
Does anyone know of any websites that ship internationally for sugar free? It is difficult here - I have only found one brand of sugar free ice lollies (popsicles) and nothing in regards to ice cream, flavoured oatmeal, etc. Crystal Light is not sold here either
I am thinkin of having some iced tea with splenda or maybe sugar free kool-aid - I have that shipped here.
I imagine I will be eating alot of creamy mashed potatoes and a little bit of chicken when I can stomach it, and I am hoping that my disdain for fish taste, fish smell, and most things fishy will be gone when I wake up…

Whoo!
I was on a liquid diet just after I got my tongue pierced… (the dude bruised me with the forceps - grrr.) and that entailed lots of SlimFast shakes. They’re pretty nutritionally balanced. You might try nutritional drinks from GNC or Holland and Barrett too.
Take care on using sugar substitutes- I used to be a Diet Coke junkie but developed migraines from NutriSweet. I quit Diet Coke and they stopped. I don’t know if others have had that issue, but it spooked me enough to avoid sugar substitutes where possible.
I was just doing my Tesco online shopping and did a search there for sugar substitutes- they have lots to offer. Perhaps something there would work for you.
Congrats on the 7 pounds gone!

It is so liberating to NOT eat foods with no nutritional value. It has been my biggest accomplishment since my surgery five months ago. I consider the nutritional value of anything I put in my mouth and it makes me feel so powerful over my cravings and desires.
I can’t help for the liquid diet because I only had to do it for a day, so I was fine on Jello and water and juice and broth.
Bariatric Eating http://store.bariatriceating.com/ has a lot of sugar-free and WLS friendly products and is very popular with US patients. I notice on their shipping page it says that international orders will be shipped in the most cost-effective way, leading me to believe they can deliver to you.
Good luck!
