starting to come off…
Food, Gastric Bypass February 6th, 2007So far, the amount I have lost is 21 pounds or 9.54 kilos.
I am still very tired and uncomfortable where they put the drain into my abdomen (its out now) but I feel my strength is getting better. I am trying to walk around the house as much as possible, and I can stand long enough to enjoy my shower without worry in the mornings.
I still have 6 wounds on my chest and abdomen, which are still healing. These make wearing a bra hard, because the top entrance point is right smack dab in the middle of where my bra goes. Once the stitches have dissolved and the wound is healed this will be much easier.
I am struggling to find sugar free drinks, ice lollies, yoghurts and the like. People don’t realise that I can have ABSOLUTLY NO SUGAR. Even those slimfast drinks have tons of it in. Read the labels on the stuff you buy and you will quickly see
On the plus side, Tescos is now carrying the lactose free milk I need - a BIG bonus! I think I will stick with Tesco’s from now on, they tend to carry the healthy items I need more easily.
SOOOO, if you have any recommendations for sugar free items, I am particulary looking for ice cream and drinking chocolate, let me know.

Sugar free stuff (including hot choc): http://www.sugarfreesuperstore.co.uk/ - though I suspect having ice cream delivered might be tricky
Get well soon x

Wow- are you sugar-free for life or just for the healing process? I’m intrigued and will go look up some info on the web. Are you able to eat things sweetened with fruit juice (since that could open up some options at health food shops) or only chemical sweeteners? I don’t know if you can have fruit at all now, so I thought it was worth asking…
I understand your bra frustrations. When I had my hysterectomy it was a horizontal incision that seemed to perfectly line up with the low waistband of most of my panties! Not to mention the major swelling made it difficult to wear my normal stuff anyway…
So good to hear you’re getting stronger and achieving results. Hugs to you! x

I am sugar free for at least 6 months, but will have to limit my sugar intake for the rest of my life, a small price to pay for health.
My mom had this surgery 6 years ago and she drinks - in small quantities, eats - childrens sized portions, and she even had some birthday cake on Sunday.
So it is possible, in future, but for now I daren’t take the chance. The sugar causes dumping syndrome, and is absolute agony for about an hour - imagine a panic attack with sickness and diarrhea for an hour? No thanks!

Another online supplier is Goodness Direct - http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk
They do ship chilled and frozen goods, but you have to order a minimum quantity. My wife, Natalie, uses them for a whole host of wheat, gluten and dairy free goodies.
If you need more info I can put you two in touch.
